In 2003, Nestlé Hungary started the Nutrikid programme, with the objective to help improving Hungarian children’s knowledge on nutrition and promoting healthy lifestyles. The programme was developed and is implemented in cooperation with the Hungarian Dietetic Association and the National Institute for Health Development.

To date, the Nutrikid programme in Hungary has reached 2,700 primary schools, i.e. 200,000 children. 232 additional schools joined the scheme in the school year 2009/2010.

Participation in the Nutrikid programme is aimed at children between 10 and 12 and is open to all primary schools. The programme is entirely free of charge for schools. Nestlé supplies the schools with the teaching material, organizes inter-school competitions on nutrition, sets up conferences for the teachers and train them to use the programme.

Nutrikid is designed to be easy to understand for children - the traditional workbook and teacher’s handbook are complemented by audiovisual material (a cartoon) and an interactive website: Nutrikid Hungary

Schools are invited to join the programme year in March and the teaching material is delivered to teachers in September. A contest is organised each year, to keep up schools' focus and interest on the issue, including different monthly activities and prizes related to nutrition and healthy lifestyles.

Healthy Kids

Nutrikid is part of a larger global commitment by the company, called Nestlé Healthy Kids Global Programme. The objective of the programme is to raise nutrition, health and wellness awareness among school age children around the world. Nestlé believes that education is the most powerful tool for ensuring that children understand the value of nutrition and physical activity for their health through the course of their lives.
