Improving transportation efficiency and reducing accidents

Dairy Partners America (DPA) is cutting costs and improving reliability of supplies by providing its milk collection contractors’ truck drivers in Brazil with accident prevention training. Coupled with an incentive scheme and modern data logging, this resulted in 58% fewer accidents in the first half of 2008, compared with the entire previous year, and a rate at least ten times lower than national average.
Training employees
People development in Asia
Nestlé Pakistan, in partnership with the United Nations Development Program, trains 4,000 women workers in primary animal healthcare in the Punjab region. The project also provides microfinance to enable female entrepreneurship.
The Nestlé Apprentice Programme in Colombia
The Nestlé Apprentice Program in Colombia has been running since 1960. Training is given in a government institute, SENA, combined with on-the-job training in the company. The skills developed are not Nestlé-specific but highly transferable.
Training employees, Brazil
Nestlé provides training and education to employees in Brazil. It also invests on the creation of work positions for low income young people, as part of an Apprentice program initiated by the federal government. The aim is to give young people their first opportunity to join the workforce.
Nutrition knowledge, South Africa
Nestlé South Africa created the Nestlé Nutrition Institute Africa (NNIA) in 2001 to further develop African expertise on nutrition. The Institute fosters research and promotes understanding of nutrition at all stages of life in Africa’s diverse population. Key areas of interest include malnutrition, obesity, safe infant and young child feeding practices and breast-feeding promotion.
