Water Stories

Saving water through improved irrigation, Vietnam

Through a train-the-trainer project sponsored by Nestlé, Vietnamese farmers are learning that they can increase the quality of their coffee yields by using less water. They are also reducing their dependence on the boom and bust cycles of the global coffee market by diversifying their crops and creating small enterprises.
Water Stories
Reducing water consumption, Italy
Launched in 2008 under the framework of the global food industry’s Sustainable Agriculture Initiative, the new project run by Nestlé will help rural farmers in Parma, Northern Italy, to adopt and evaluate a new water management technology.
Ensuring treatment of waste water
Nestlé’s first water management objective is to minimise the company’s own production of waste water. Between 2002 and 2006, our global processing facilities reduced by 37% the amount of waste water that we produce for every kilogram of food and beverage product we make.
Saving water during coffee processing, Ethiopia
Ethiopian coffee farmers are mostly small holders who support their families with a mixture of subsistence agriculture and cash cropping. Nestlé promoted and financed the installation and operation of an eco-friendly coffee processing facility in Kochere Woreda.
Bringing clean water to thousands in Rwanda
A joint collaboration between Nestlé S.A, the Lutheran World Federation (LWF) and Inter-Faith Action for Peace in Africa (IFAPA) brings safe water to up to 21,600 people in Gatore, Kirehe, Eastern Rwanda.
