Saving water through improved irrigation, Vietnam

Through a train-the-trainer project sponsored by Nestlé, Vietnamese farmers are learning that they can increase the quality of their coffee yields by using less water. They are also reducing their dependence on the boom and bust cycles of the global coffee market by diversifying their crops and creating small enterprises.
Water Stories
Safe drinking water – Sri Lanka
The availability of safe drinking water is a major concern for many communities, particularly in rural areas. According to World Bank studies, currently only about 10% of all Sri Lankan households has water on tap and every fifth person relies on rivers, streams and other unprotected water sources.
Drip irrigation project - Nicaragua
The aim of this project is to develop a low cost drip irrigation system to be used in coffee plantations. Through the sustainable use and control of water, we can speed plant growth and achieve better quality crop.
Supporting water education for new generations
Water Education for Teachers (WET) is a non-profit organisation that promotes the awareness, appreciation, knowledge and stewardship of water resources. Launched in the United States in 1984 and first sponsored by Nestlé Waters in 1992, Project WET workshops and programmes have reached several million children.
Reducing our water use around the world
For many years, a systematic approach to water conservation has led to significant improvements in water efficiencies at Nestlé factories. Since 2002, the company reduced its waste use per kilogramme of product by 27%. The Nestlé Waters business achieved a 30% reduction.
