Sichuan reconstruction

In line with the Government’s efforts to accelerate the rapid return of children’s lives in earthquake affected areas to normality, Nestlé today announced financial support for the rebuilding of Zhuwa Primary School in Tangchang Town of Pixian County, Sichuan Province. Zhuwa Primary School has been selected as the beneficiary of a Nestlé sponsored School Rebuilding Project, with funds from Nestlé Worldwide Headquarters, Nestlé in China as well as Nestlé employees’ cash donations.

Earlier, following the devastating May 12 Sichuan earthquake, Nestlé in China and its employees already donated about RMB 10 million (CHF 1.75 million) in the form of Nestlé products, tents and cash donations including funds raised by Nestlé employees in the Philippines and Japan.

Zhuwa Primary School has 17 classes with around 780 students. Nestlé will also be organising interactive programs for its employees to participate in contributing towards the support of these students in need of assistance.

The reconstruction of the main class building will be completed by spring of 2009, so that the students will have a new building for a fresh start to the next semester. “This contribution from all stakeholders of the Nestlé Group for reconstruction after the earthquake, has again demonstrated our Nestlé Spirit. Thanks to all our employees’ efforts, we will make a lasting contribution to help meet the needs of the local communities, especially those of the children, who represent the bright future of China,” said Mr. Patrice Bula, Chairman and CEO of Nestlé ( China ) Ltd.
