This first time I tried to bake by myself (I have no recollection of what it was exactly, but I believe it was cookies) I was about 16 years old. Everything was going well until I got to the part where it said 'mix by hand' and thought to myself, 'that's odd, but ok,' and so I started to mix. About two minutes later my mom came home and asked what I was doing, looking at me with a weird look. I replied, 'The recipe said to mix by hand,' she burst out laughing and informed me that it means to mix with a spoon IN your hand, and not to mix with your actual HANDS. I laughed, washed my hands and finished the recipe. Now whenever I see the instruction 'mix by hand' I can't help but laugh.
