Although Nestlé does not own any cocoa farms or plantations, we are committed to contributing to more sustainable cocoa growing through partnership programmes. Nestlé is funding a three-year project with three co-operatives of about 3000 farmers in Côte d’Ivoire. This scheme, in conjunction with the International Cocoa Organization (ICCO), the International Cocoa Initiative (ICI), cocoa exporter ECOM Agroindustrial and local non-governmental organisation FEMAD (Women, Action and Development) aims to improve cocoa farmers’ incomes, protect the environment, combat child labour, improve school attendance and increase HIV awareness. Further projects in West Africa are under development.
