Nestlé: One of top 100 sustainable companies in the world
On Thursday, January 24, 2008, Innovest Strategic Value Advisors launched a Global 100 list of the most sustainable corporations at the World Economic Forum in Davos. The Global 100 was initiated by Corporate Knights Inc. with Innovest as the exclusive research provider. The list includes companies from 16 countries in sectors ranging from oil and gas to wireless telecommunication services. The companies, including Nestlé, were evaluated according to how effectively they manage environmental, social and governance risks and opportunities, relative to their industry peers. Nestlé CEO signs Bali Communiqué on Climate Change
Peter Brabeck-Letmathe, Nestlé Chairman and CEO, became one of 150 business leaders to sign a communiqué
on November 30, 2007, calling for a comprehensive, legally binding United Nations framework to tackle climate change. The initiative represents an unprecedented coming together of the international business community and includes some of the biggest companies and brands from around the world. The communiqué was published just before a United Nations
meeting in Bali to discuss a framework convention on climate change.
Nestlé Purina employee wins award for outstanding energy savings
Nestlé Purina Petcare’s Director of Industrial Performance, Raj Kumar, has been awarded a “Legend in Energy” title by the Association of Energy Engineers (AEE) for his accomplishments in the energy industry. Mr Kumar was praised for his work in energy conservation in the corporate setting. “I was pleasantly surprised when I saw that I had won,” Mr Kumar says. “This is not an award that you can apply for; it is extremely competitive and they choose you among all peers in the energy industry.”
Mr Kumar has directed the Company’s energy usage reduction, developing energy usage reduction plans and implementing energy conservation practices at other plants including those in Europe.
Earlier this month Mr Kumar and his colleague Betsy Cohen, Nestlé Purina’s Vice President of Veterinary Business and Sustainability, submitted a sustainability success story to the Grocery Manufacturers Association and the Environmental Protection Agency. This project initiative will save the amount of natural gas and water used in production at the Jefferson wet pet food factory, USA, whilst reducing pollutants emitted into the environment. This project went beyond the levels of compliance to achieve outstanding environmental performance.
Nestlé Chachoengsao Factory wins Thailand Energy Award 2007 for second time
On July 12, 2007 the Nestlé Chachoengsao factory was awarded “The Best Award in the Designated Factory – Food Category” from the Department of Alternative Energy Development and Efficiency, Thailand. The award ceremony was held at the Chulabhorn Research Institute where factory manager, Mr K.Vitaya Osothsinlp, left, was handed the trophy from the Ministry of Energy, Dr. Piyasawat Ammaranan.
The Chachoengsao factory was accredited for its great energy management throughout the organization which involved participation at all levels. The Nestlé team are now aiming for a further National Award to raise awareness of sustainable development.
In 2006, Nestlé won the 2nd prize in the Thailand Energy Award for its programme "Renewable Energy of Spent Coffee Ground by a Fluidized Boiler” at the Chachoengsao factory.
Nestlé Pakistan receives Annual Environment Excellence Award 2007
Nestlé Pakistan Ltd has been awarded the Annual Environment Excellence Award 2007 by the National Forum for Environment and Health (NFEH). Mr A. Hassan, HSE Manager at Nestlé Pakistan Ltd, pictured far right, was presented the award by Dr S. Ahmed, Minister of the Environment on July 4, 2007 at a ceremony held in Karachi, Pakistan. The panel of judges voted unanimously to award Nestlé Pakistan Ltd for their environmental policy and vision, local activities for the protection of the environment and their contributions to community welfare.
The NFEH is a non-governmental, non-profit organisation, established on June 5, 1999. Its aim is to facilitate, promote and help create environmental, healthcare and educational awareness. NFEH is affiliated with the United Nations Environmental Program (UNEP) and is supported by the Ministry of Environment of the Government of Pakistan. The Annual Environment Excellence Awards are designed to recognise and promote the organisations which make an outstanding contribution to sustainable development.
