Treatment of Waste Water

Graph showing the amount of waste water generated in litres to produce 1 kg of product, 2002 till 2006 Litres of waste-water generated to manufacture 1 kilogram of product, 2002 till 2006 (Nestlé total) [D] Nestlé's first objective is to minimise waste water. Between 2002 and 2006 Nestlé reduced the amount of waste water generated to produce one kilogram of food and beverage product by 37%. Since 1930 when it built its first water treatment plant, Nestlé has made extraordinary efforts to clean waste water before it is returned to nature in an environmentally acceptable form, Today Nestlé operates 160 treatment plants, either because in-house treatment is more efficient or, mainly in developing countries, because municipal infrastructure does not exist or does not meet Nestlé’s stringent environmental standards.
