MINIMISING IMPACT: Taking care of the environment and rural societies.

We take care of the environment and communities where we operate. We adhere to local environmental regulations and seek to go further to minimise any impact on the environment:

  • Water. The manufacture of breakfast cereals requires minimal water. Water is used to cook the wheat and to wash our equipment. All our facilities have an environmental plan against which they measure their operations and identify ways to improve the environmental performance.

  • Energy. We monitor our energy consumption in detail and continually work to minimise its use by introducing energy efficient technologies and actions.

  • Transport. To minimise 'food miles', we use sophisticated software to maximise the efficiency of our warehouse storage and transportation. This helps ensure that our trucks have optimal capacity and make fewer journeys.

  • Packaging. Packaging is essential to the safety, quality and transportation of breakfast cereals. We take care to use the minimum amount of packaging possible. The plastic liner remains an important component to ensure product safety and preserve freshness. The cardboard ensures that the product can be efficiently transported and stored. For our breakfast cereal cartons we use cardboard made from forests managed to a certified standard. In addition, we constantly look for and test new ways to minimise packaging.

  • Recycling. Our packaging materials – the plastic liners, cardboard cartons and outer cardboard shipping cases can all be recycled where facilities exist. We actively encourage consumers to recycle packaging.
