Nestlé and influenza A (H1N1)

May 13, 2009

As soon as the latest flu epidemic broke out, Nestlé put its standing Human Pandemic Task Force at its headquarters in Vevey on alert. Local task forces in the markets have also been activated.

At this stage, these task forces are monitoring the situation across the world, keeping Nestlé employees abreast of developments and making general recommendations on hygiene (washing hands, disposing of tissues etc.), based on World Health Organization (WHO) guidelines.

The task forces have established specific preparedness and business contingency plans addressing the most likely scenarios in each market.

Nestlé’s primary objectives are to safeguard the health of employees and their families, maintain the safety and quality of products as well as minimize the potential disruption to the global business.

In light of the relatively low virulance and a slowdown of the number of new cases in recent days, Nestlé has decided to lift previously imposed travel restrictions to and from Mexico and the United States, effective on 15 May 2009. Nestlé continues to closely monitor further developments.
