Nestlé continues to drive growth in Europe through innovation

Nestlé continues to drive the growth of its business in Europe through innovation with the launch of its BabyNes nutrition system for infants and toddlers in France.

BabyNes offers single-serve formulas that are carefully composed to suit a child’s changing nutritional needs and growth patterns in early life.

Nestlé is launching the premium machine in France following a successful launch in Switzerland.

It is the company’s latest major innovation in capsule systems technology, building on the successes of Nespresso, Nescafé Dolce Gusto and Special.T.

Integrated products and systems

Nestlé owes a large part of its growth in Europe in recent years to the popularity of its system innovations.

Its premium-portioned coffee business Nespresso continues to see double-digit growth in well-established markets such as France, while hot and cold beverage maker Nescafé Dolce Gusto is one of its fastest-growing businesses on the continent.

The launch of BabyNes in France comes just weeks after Nestlé announced the roll-out of its premium-portioned Special.T machine to five new countries in Europe.

All four brands reflect the company’s continued research and development capability to integrate products and systems to offer consumers a complete service.

Unmatched research and development

“Research and development is one of Nestlé’s key competitive advantages,” said Laurent Freixe, Nestlé’s Head of Zone Europe.

“We continue to invest in Europe, in our innovations and to increase our presence in both premium categories and popularly positioned products.

“Four years ago we set an objective to achieve about CHF 1 billion of our sales in Europe through innovation,” he continued. “By the end of 2011 we had already exceeded this target.”

Infant nutrition

Nestlé believes breastfeeding is the best start for an infant.

The company supports exclusive breastfeeding for the first six months of an infant’s life and continued breastfeeding thereafter for as long as possible, in line with World Health Organisation (WHO) recommendations.

For babies who are not breastfed, Nestlé provides high-quality breast milk substitutes.

The company has unmatched expertise in infant nutrition gained over 145 years since founder Henri Nestlé’s invention of ‘Farine Lactée’.

BabyNes uses new patented technology to ensure safe and convenient bottle preparation at the touch of a button.

The system is only available in France and Switzerland, where consumers can buy machines and capsules via the website or in selected baby stores. Consumers in Switzerland can also buy products in selected pharmacies.

Nestlé in France

Nestlé has been present in France since 1868; one year after the company was founded in Switzerland.

In 1916 Nestlé built its first factory in France. Today it operates a total of 32 factories on 29 industrial sites across the country, as well as five research and development centres.

France is Nestlé’s biggest European market and its second biggest market worldwide. Nestlé France had sales of CHF 5.6 billion in 2011.
