Health conditions such as obesity, diabetes and Alzheimer’s disease, are placing an unsustainable burden on our healthcare systems, systems which are based on treating sick people rather than preventing illness.
With Nestlé Health Science, we have created a new model between the traditional food and pharma industries and we aim to shape a different approach to disease prevention and management.
EXPANDING THE BOUNDARIES OF NUTRITION: Luis Cantarell, President and CEO of Nestlé Health Science and Ed Baetge, Director of the Nestlé Institute of Health Sciences explain the essence of what science-based personalised nutrition is all about.
Personalised health science nutrition has the opportunity to offer a compelling and cost effective solution to many of today’s chronic and acute medical conditions and diseases.
We believe that health science nutrition will become personalised in two different ways. Firstly, it will become targeted at specific needs. For example, products for dysphagia patients with swallowing disorders to reduce the likelihood of complications such as lung infections.
Secondly, nutrition will gradually become personalised through greater understanding of genetic and environmental interactions with food.
