To translate science into products more quickly, we use rapid prototyping and production facilities in our R&D centers for in-market testing. We have also adopted a fast-track process to fund promising bottom-up innovations outside of standard budget cycles.
Recent innovations include Wunda, a pea-based beverage that you can use just like milk, and Nescafé Gold Blend Roastery Collection, which harnesses Nestlé's coffee roasting expertise. Incoa, a chocolate made wholly from cocoa fruit, is just one example of a new product that valorizes agricultural raw materials that would otherwise have been wasted, to deliver innovation.
Other significant launches include an affordable, nutritious porridge that valorizes a sorghum side stream, plant-based Milo beverages in Thailand, plant-based alternatives to egg and shrimp, vegan hot dogs and the Awesome Burger 2.0 from Sweet Earth – plus Nestlé's first vegan KitKat.
Another recent launch, the Roastelier system, which allows coffee shop owners to roast customized house blends, was developed in just 12 months.
We're active on the packaging side too – in line with our group ambition to make all of our packaging reusable or recyclable by 2025 – piloting reusable and refillable dispensers to reduce single-use packaging, and rolling out 100% paper packaging for Smarties confectionery globally.
Increasingly found across our sites, our R&D Accelerator initiative unites scientists, students and startups to accelerate the development of innovative products and systems. With full access to Nestlé's R&D infrastructure, teams aim to bring ideas from lab to launch in six months following a lean startup mentality.
