Onboard with Solar Impulse

Solar Impulse

Nestlé Research was onboard today as Solar Impulse set off from Honolulu, Hawaii, on the latest leg of its around the world journey.

Our researchers have developed tailor-made menus to suit the challenges faced by Solar Impulse’s pilots Bertrand Piccard and André Borschberg, providing optimal nutrition as they try to circumnavigate the globe.

The mission is an unprecedented endurance test to both stay healthy and well- nourished, while coping with high stress levels, low oxygen and extreme temperatures.

Our research team at the Nestlé Research Center in Lausanne has been working with the Solar Impulse team for over 5 years developing a range of meals and snacks in packaging which can withstand wide temperature variations, and stay fresh without preservatives.

“By working closely with the team at Nestlé Research, we have the confidence that we will have the energy and fulfilment necessary to achieve our goals as we are pushed to our physical limits,” said Bertrand Piccard, Initiator, Chairman and Pilot of Solar Impulse.
