Should I be concerned about the Foodwatch report on mineral oils in BEBA OPTIPRO and NIDAL?

The health and safety of babies is our number one priority and we take this extremely seriously. We would like to reassure parents that all our infant formula products are completely safe.

Mineral oils are present in small amounts in the environment and in the production of some agricultural ingredients. We continuously improve our sourcing of raw and packaging materials, our manufacturing processes and testing methods. Our regular testing which follows the EU analytical method (JRC 19) has not shown detectable levels of mineral oils in our products, including from our tin cans.

In order to further reassure parents, we have sent samples of the same batches of BEBA OPTIPRO PRE, BEBA OPTIPRO 1 (Germany) and NIDAL 1 (France), mentioned in the Foodwatch report, to an independent accredited laboratory (ISO/IEC 17025, STS 0038). All tests confirmed non-detectable levels of mineral oils (MOAH).

We invited Foodwatch to discuss the technical details of their findings and they declined. However, we are still open for a constructive dialogue.

There are currently no limits set by authorities for mineral oils (MOAH) in infant formula. We are determined to prevent their presence in food. We are committed to offer safe and high quality products to our consumers. Throughout the manufacturing process, we perform over 500 quality checks on our infant formula before releasing each production batch for sale. We also conduct additional prevention and monitoring programs to ensure our products consistently meet the highest standards.

For any questions, we encourage consumers to contact Nestlé consumer engagement services.
