Food safety and quality by design
Using science and technology, we ensure product safety and quality 'by design', while developing methods to identify, screen or anticipate potential risks.
How we safeguard food quality and safety
The Nestlé Institute of Food Safety and Analytical Sciences (NIFSAS), part of Nestlé Research in Lausanne, Switzerland, takes the lead on the research side. Further support is provided by our regional food safety institutes in China and India.
Our Nestlé Product and Technology Centers (NPTCs) apply these research learnings to specific product categories and brands across the world.
Harnessing innovative technology
Through the development of cutting-edge predictive tools, our experts can quickly assess the impact of any changes on product safety. At the same time, we can provide early warnings of emerging safety and quality risks.
Our teams also develop robust analytical methods to use throughout Nestlé's global laboratory network. These allow us to test foods, ensure safety and quality, and accelerate product innovation.
'Digital food safety' is integral to our food safety and quality work. Here, we've developed artificial intelligence tools that use 'big data' in real time from a variety of sources, to identify and target potential risks in our supply chain. We're exploring digital tools for use in agriculture too, to help farmers manage inputs and ensure food safety.
