The history of Pro Plan Veterinary Diets
1990
PPVD by another name
PURINA launched a line of therapeutic pet foods known as Clinical Nutrition Management. In 2000, the name changed to PURINA Veterinary Diets.
1994
Innovation for canines
PURINA Veterinary Diets Gastroenteric was the first therapeutic canine gastrointestinal diet to incorporate medium-chain triglycerides and colostrum.
1998
The first true hypoallergenic extruded diet for dogs
Our Hypoallergenic Canine Formula was introduced, using a protein isolate and a low-allergen carbohydrate source for dogs with food allergies.
2000
Covering a wide range of conditions
By 2000, PURINA offered 16 therapeutic pet foods to help veterinarians nutritionally manage pets with a variety of conditions.
2006
PPVD launched Fortiflora supplement
Fortiflora probiotic supplement arrived - a delicious and convenient probiotic supplement that promotes gut health and a healthy immune system.

Direct to vets
PURINA Pro Plan Vet Direct is launched. The ecommerce platform helps veterinary clinics build better relationships with clients – leading to better health outcomes for pet patients.
2019
Calming Care is here
Light powder sprinkled on top of your pet's food, Calming Care is a probiotic supplement that contains bacteria shown to help dogs maintain calm behavior. A version for cats was then launched in 2022.

Hydra Care supplement
Hydra Care is a nutrient-enriched water containing nutritional osmolytes, which aid in the absorption of water at a cellular level and helps cats get the hydration they need.
