Acqua Panna, the Italian mineral water beloved by Florence’s powerful Medici family, has been re-styled to reflect the water’s Tuscan roots, as it marks 450 years of history.
The water now carries the northern Italian region’s Tuscany Taste logo, an honour that, until now, has only been bestowed upon famous local wines.
The new label comes 450 years after the formal creation of the estate on which it springs, a former hunting reserve which sits along an ancient route that connected Florence and Bologna.
Legend has it that Lorenzo il Magnifico was so fond of the distinct, light taste of the water that he would have it transported to his Florentine court to ensure a constant supply of fresh mineral water.
Filtered through limestone for 15 years, the mineral water still makes the same long journey to its source on the estate before being bottled, though it is now sold in 120 countries worldwide.
