Nestlé inaugurates pet food factory expansion in Hungary

Nestlé today inaugurated a CHF 70 million expansion to its Purina plant in Bük, Hungary. The factory produces high-quality pet food for dogs and cats in more than 40 countries, meeting growing demand from pet owners.

The investment underlines Nestlé’s strategy to focus capital spending on advancing the high-growth food and beverage categories of petcare, coffee, infant nutrition and bottled water.

The plant produces a range of brands - including Felix, Gourmet and Friskies – to keep pets happy, healthy and strong. A fully automated new manufacturing unit employs a globally unique technology to turn high-quality local agricultural inputs into more than one million pet food items every day. The new 5000 square-metre manufacturing hall includes two new filling and packaging lines.

The Bük site is one of the largest pet food manufacturing plants in Europe. It has 900 employees and more than 90 per cent of its output is produced for export.
