Nestlé supports youth employment drive in Latin America

With one in eight people under 25 in the Americas without a job, Nestlé has today pledged to continue to help youth in Latin America to enter the job market. The company is supporting the “Organismo Internacional de Juventud para Iberoamérica” (OIJ) in launching the International Youth Cooperation Alliance.

As Laurent Freixe, Executive Vice President and Head of Zone Americas at Nestlé points out: “At Nestlé we are proud to contribute to building a promising future for young people. We believe we can make a real difference across Ibero-America by working with the OIJ. This alliance will allow us to build on our commitments, create readiness for work opportunities and offer young people a chance to participate in the labour market”.

Nestlé has pledged to help over 560,000 young people in Latin America enter the world of work. This includes the company offering over 9,000 jobs and over 6,600 apprenticeships and training opportunities by 2018.

At the first Pacific Alliance Youth Summit in Peru last year, Nestlé committed to step up its work on youth employability through the Nestlé Needs YOUth global initiative. An action plan with concrete objectives will be presented at the next Pacific Alliance Summit in Chile in May.
