What is Nestlé’s response to the 2025 EAT-Lancet report?
Nestlé shares the goal of creating a healthier, sustainable, and more equitable food system. That includes promoting the adoption of regenerative agriculture at scale: we already source more than 20 percent of key ingredients for our products from farms adopting regenerative agriculture practices and aim to reach 50 percent by 2030. We continue to expand our range of affordable, nutritious food options. Examples include milk powders that combine milk and plant protein, fortified foods with iron that’s easier to absorb to help address micronutrient gaps, and new ways to reduce sugar and add fiber to our milk products.
Given rising rates of diet-related disease globally, what steps is Nestlé taking to make its portfolio healthier?
- We support efforts to improve balanced, healthy diets across the world in support of public health goals.
- Actions we are taking to respond to public health concerns include:
- Continuing to innovate to improve our recipes
- Industry-leading responsible marketing practices
- Careful portion guidance to help consumers make informed choices and consume responsibly
- Setting a target to increase sales of the more nutritious part of our portfolio.
How is Nestlé increasing access to more affordable food products globally?
- We know that many families are facing challenges due to current high levels of inflation. That is why we are expanding our affordable nutrition options.
- Our work to make better nutrition affordable includes fortifying our products with essential micronutrients and providing wider access to foods that provide high-quality protein (e.g., Maggi Soya Chunks, Nido Milk & Soya).
- In 2024, we provided 132 billion servings of affordable, micronutrient-fortified foods, helping to address locally relevant nutritional deficiencies around the world.
- We continue to use our R&D expertise and local market insights to rapidly respond to changing consumer preferences at accessible price points.
How is Nestlé responding to consumer demand for less “ultra processed” foods?
- We know that consumers are looking for convenient and nutritious foods that are affordable, as well as those which can accompany or enhance a home-cooked main meal, such as our Maggi bouillons or range of air fryer recipe mixes, meals and seasonings.
- We provide these products to meet this demand while continuing to improve our recipes as part of our efforts to respond to consumer preferences for kitchen cupboard ingredients wherever possible.
- We’re transparent about the ingredients we use in our products and include clear nutritional information on-pack to help consumers make informed choices.
How is Nestlé supporting a just, equitable food system for workers in your supply chain?
- We support the goal of a just transition toward a fairer food system, where farmers and workers can support themselves and their families while protecting and restoring the natural environment for the next generation.
- We work with farmers through programs such as the Nestlé Cocoa Plan and Nescafé Plan to help them enhance crop yields while improving soil health and resilience to climate change.
- We also provide training on labor laws and on ensuring decent, safe working conditions in our supply chain as set out in our Human Rights Framework and Roadmap (pdf, 11Mb). And we assess, address, and report transparently on actual and potential human rights risks.
Do you have a methane reduction target for your agricultural supply chain?
- As part of our Net Zero Roadmap, we are working to reduce GHG emissions including methane.
- We disclose our progress transparently via our Non-Financial Statement (pdf, 4Mb). Since 2018, we have reduced our methane emissions by 20.5%.
- We believe a variety of measures are needed. That is why we work closely with farmers and run more than 100 climate projects worldwide to reduce and remove GHG emissions and support regenerative agriculture on dairy farms. We also explore feed solutions to reduce methane produced during digestion.
