Born in France, the effervescent spirit of Perrier is now recognized in more than 140 countries. First, our carbonated mineral water was adopted as the champagne of table waters in Great Britain. Soon after, it went on to captivate hearts far and wide, before finding fame at home in France.

A thirst for sustainability
Everything in nature is intertwined: if we are to help preserve Perrier natural mineral water, which is located in the groundwater aquifer, it is vital that we strive to protect the surrounding land that forms the catchment area known as the 'impluvium'.
A zero-pesticide policy has been in place for many years on farmland and in villages located in the impluvium, which is why Perrier supports and promotes organic farming, particularly in the wine-growing sector (partnership with the “Héraclès” cooperative winery). We support farmers to reduce and eliminate the use of pesticides by finding organic solutions. These good practices have made the cooperative into the largest organic winery in France, which stores 80,000 hectoliters of organic Vins de Pays. Since implementing these measures, 90% of our farmland (over 600 hectares) has been certified organic.

The history of Perrier
1863
A new spa
A decree is signed authorizing water to be taken from the spring at Les Bouillens in Vergèze, which has been known since Roman times. Alphonse Granier, the owner of the site, builds a spa resort.
1870
Taste the prestige
Keen to spread the word about the beneficial properties of water from Les Bouillens spa, Alphonse dubs it 'the princess of table waters' in an advertisement.
1898
Introducing Dr Perrier
Doctor Louis-Eugène Perrier takes over the company. He perfects techniques for water and gas capture, establishes the optimum blend and begins bottling at the source for the first time. Les Bouillens water 'to go' is born.
1903
A new partner
St. John Harmsworth buys shares in the company, his interest piqued by Doctor Perrier's efforts to attract funding for his spa in Vergèze.
1906
Named after the doctor
As a tribute to the Doctor, St. John Harmsworth calls both his company and his water Perrier. The unusual shape of the bottle is inspired by a wooden Indian club Harmsworth used for exercising.
1910
More Perrier for everyone
We build a new home for our brand, with plenty of room for our growing team – there are now almost 300 of us. At the same time, we introduce a whole series of innovative production processes.
1936
A new icon is born
The Perrier Girl, designed by Jean- Gabriel Domergue, makes her first appearance. A campaign offering variations on 'the champagne of table waters' theme draws on the talents of some of the era's best writers.
1949
A famous sound
Advertising executive Jean Davray invents the slogan 'Perrier, l'eau qui fait Pschitt', referring to the sound of the bottle being opened, and commissions top poster designers to illustrate the slogan, with Jean Carlu being the first.
1960s
Crazy bubbles
Perrier had a wild trip with its 'Crazy Bubbles' campaign, a collaboration with Barbarella author and artist Jean-Claude Forest. Forest's iconic sci-fi style included mermaids and cavewoman.
1970
Get wild with Perrier
Jean Davray invents a new landmark slogan: 'Perrier, c'est fou!' (Perrier is zany!). The bottle is decorated with a tuxedo to celebrate New Year's Eve 1970.
1976
Perrier arrives in the United States
It didn't take long to become popular thanks to the iconic 'Earth's first soft drink' campaign, illustrated by Rob. Bleechman & Milton Glaser.
1988
Enjoyed in more than 100 countries
Perrier is now sold in 119 countries – sending demand to over one billion bottles every year.
1992
Perrier joins the Nestlé family
Nestlé, the world's top food-processing group and owner of other prestigious springs, buys Source Perrier SA – a key step in Nestlé becoming the biggest global player in bottled water.
2001
Perrier on the move
Perrier goes portable with new easy-to-carry PET (polyethylene terephthalate) plastic bottles.
2006
A campaign to modernize
Three new bottling lines are created, and the Verrerie du Languedoc glassworks is sold to refocus on what Perrier does best – mineral water.
2013
A major milestone
Perrier celebrates its 150th anniversary in style under the Pop Art banner, featuring Warhol designs. Suspense is in the air with Perrier Secret Place, an interactive game full of surprises.
2020
A Murakami special
Takashi Murakami's signature smiling flowers and characters, Kaikai and Kiki, bring an extra pop of color and joy to the iconic green Perrier bottles.
2023
PERRIER celebrates its 160th birthday
The new limited-edition PERRIER + STARCK® is launched; a brand-new version of the iconic glass bottle whose shape has been celebrated, for the first time in its history, by visionary creator Philippe Starck.
