Nestlé Waters France has always been committed to resolving these historic landfill sites in Vosges which predate the company’s ownership as of 1992, based on an agreed understanding of the specific environmental conditions of each site.
The majority of the sites have already been cleaned, and, following in-depth environmental studies and monitoring, advanced discussions are now underway with the authorities to determine and implement sustainable solutions for the three remaining more complex sites.
Are your bottled waters safe to drink?
We can reassure consumers that all our bottled waters are safe to drink. We have been testing our products for microplastics since 2015 using state-of-the-art devices and techniques. So far, these tests have not detected microplastics beyond trace level.
Should we be concerned about microplastics pollution at the wells owned by Nestlé Waters in France?
All studies conducted using standardized and internationally recognized analytical methods conclude that, to date, there is no microplastic pollution in the water of Nestlé Waters’ wells. As in any environment today, scattered traces of microplastics can be detected. However, the nature and distribution of the microplastics observed do not correspond to the materials present at the sites, and no causal link has been established. Studies conducted by two French consumer associations have also confirmed the absence of microplastic pollution in our finished products.
Do microplastics pose a risk for bottled water drinkers?
The World Health Organization’s latest report on the topic concluded that while there is insufficient information to draw a firm conclusion on microplastics, no reliable information exists to suggest a food safety concern for bottled water drinkers.
